Survey on Site-Specific Nutrient Management Practices

Scientists at the University of Florida have numerous ongoing research projects to update nutrient management recommendations. To help with those efforts, we have developed a survey to align current and future research with the technology investments and interests of Florida farmers. The purpose of this survey is to understand crop advisors’ decision-making processes. The Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) survey also asks about information sources they rely on when recommending site-specific nutrient management practices.

Dr. Lauri Baker at the UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources (PIE Center) took the lead in developing the survey. It includes both close-ended and open-ended responses. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. It asks crop advisors such questions as:

  • What resources do you use when developing nutrient management recommendations for your clients?
  • What site characteristics do you consider when suggesting variable fertilizer rates?
  • What nutrient management research topics are you most interested in UF/IFAS prioritizing in the coming years?

A report on the results of the CCA survey will be shared when data collection is complete. It will indicate which site characteristics and information sources crop advisors are using for SSNM recommendations in Florida. Survey responses will be organized by 4/5R categories to ensure these fundamental concepts of crop production are being utilized. No personally identifiable information will be collected or shared.
