ORLANDO — The Central Florida Fair has pledged $100,000 to support scholarships for students of the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences from the six counties it serves.
Pending the availability of state funds, the gift will be eligible for an additional $50,000 in matching money.
“We have worked very closely with UF in promoting education in the agricultural industry through our 87 year history, and this is an important step in those efforts,” said Charlie Price, manager and chief operating officer of the fair.
The fair also challenged other fairs throughout the state to match its commitment. “We’ve received a good response from other fair managers, and we’re confident that other pledges will be made,” Price said.
The Central Florida Fair serves Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties. This year’s fair runs from Feb. 25 through March 7.
