The month of April is Florida 4-H Volunteer appreciation month! We are using this time to thank our non-traditional volunteers that enable us to inspire and educate the youth of Nassau County.
In September of 2017 our county program launched a new opportunity called the Youth Emergency Team (YET). It was hugely successful largely due to the support of Martha Oberdorfer of Nassau County Emergency Management. She was integral to the program’s creation and proudly promoted this wonderful new partnership. Martha donated countless hours after work and on weekends so that our YETies could complete this program in our Emergency Operations Center, which also exposed many youth to new careers as well as where to seek help during disasters. She helped teach the youth, provided her wonderful therapy dogs for examples and cuddles, organized guest speakers, provided our team’s equipment, and so on. Her passion for the YET program is undeniable and inspiring. She continues to support 4-H and the YETies with continued education for graduates and opportunities for those graduates to further master their skills and even teach adults!
When Martha is not helping 4-H, she is the Senior Planner and Emergency Coordinator at our EOC, ensuring that no matter what the situation that our community is safe. You won’t find Martha without a big smile, a good joke, and some wise advice.
Thank you Martha for being a fantastic volunteer!
You Rock!
