Florida is home to unique weather patterns, water resources, landscapes, and ecosystems. For many new residents, adjusting to these conditions can raise practical questions about everyday life, from lawn care and home maintenance to storm preparedness and water use.
To help address these questions, UF/IFAS Extension is refreshing its Water Wednesday education series in 2026 with a new focus on new Florida residents.
What is Water Wednesday?
Water Wednesday began in 2020 as a weekly Facebook Live series covering a wide range of water-related topics. In 2026, the series has been redesigned as a monthly webinar that takes a more structured approach, focusing on essential environmental topics new residents are likely to encounter during their first year in Florida.
Each session provides research-based, practical information from UF/IFAS Extension faculty and partners, along with opportunities for live questions and discussion.
What topics are covered?
The 2026 Water Wednesday series runs from February through November and covers a range of topics related to Florida’s environment, including:
- Florida weather and seasonal patterns
- Where Florida’s water comes from and how to use it wisely
- Florida-friendly landscaping basics
- Stormwater systems, drainage, and neighborhood ponds
- Hurricane preparedness for new residents
- Managing humidity, mold, and energy use in Florida homes
- Summer lawn and irrigation care
- Living with Florida wildlife and pests
- Septic and sewer basics for homeowners
- Enjoying Florida’s natural resources responsibly
Sessions are designed for a general public audience and focus on practical guidance that residents can apply in their homes and communities.
What to expect from each webinar
Water Wednesday webinars are held live on Zoom and typically include:
- A focused presentation on the monthly topic
