Did you know by Florida Statute requires “Any person who operates an automatic landscape irrigation system shall properly install, maintain, and operate technology that inhibits or interrupts operation of the system during periods of sufficient moisture.” (Florida Statute 373.62). This technology that “inhibits or interrupts” your irrigation system is called a rain shutoff device or a rain sensor. Last Water Wednesday, Eva Pabon, the Horticulture Agent in Osceola County went through different types of rain sensors with us.
Rain sensors are available at any irrigation supplies stores. You can install it or ask an irrigation professional to install it. There are a number advantages of a rain sensor:
- Save water;
- Save money;
- Reduce overwatering induced disease;
- Reduce overwatering induced weeds;
- Reduce stormwater runoff;
- Protect Florida water resources.
