Also known “Obamacare”, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), aims to make health insurance available for more people, with a choice between different plans.

What is the special enrollment period?

The government has created the special enrollment period, recently extended through August 15, 2021, that allows you to obtain insurance or modify your current plan.

How can I register or get more information?

Enroll in an insurance plan or change your current plan through Healthcare.gov.

For help with enrollment, Healthcare.gov offers lists of insurance agents/brokers and assisters available in your local area. Assisters are trained and certified to provide accurate, impartial information, so that people can make an informed decision. The agents and brokers listed on Healthcare.gov are licensed in their states. Both assisters and agents/brokers can also help with Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Healthcare.gov currently lists four bilingual (Spanish & English) organizations available to serve Martin County. One of them, Epilepsy Florida, has four bilingual (Spanish-English) and one bilingual (English-Creole) assister available to assist with enrollment by phone or Zoom in the Martin, Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe county area.
