Each fall, excitement can be felt in the air with the anticipation of new experiences and opportunities. With the start of school, many families seek out reliable and reputable sources for their children to become a part of. Many of these families end up at the front door of Florida Cooperative Extension and join their local 4-H program.
Throughout the years, Levy County 4-H has hosted an annual open house called the “round-up”. This event is perfect opportunity for families who want to learn more about the program, see what Levy County 4-H has to offer, and to meet 4-H club leaders throughout the county. 4-H Clubs and project areas provide activities for visiting youth to complete while at the 4-H round-up. Keeping the youth engaged and creating that “hook” is an essential piece of enrollment follow through.
Each year, Levy County 4-H Round-up has over 100 attendees. This year, of those attendees, there were at least 70 who have not been involved in 4-H previously. Wow! How awesome?! This is exciting and shows growth within the program. Not only in the means of youth membership but in regards to possible adult volunteers as well. We are excited about what this 4-H year will bring.
What is 4-H?
4‑H is America’s largest youth development organization—empowering nearly six million young people with the skills to lead for a lifetime.
FL 4-H’s Mission: The Florida 4-H Youth Development Program uses a learn-by-doing approach and caring adults to help youth gain the knowledge and life skills they need to be productive, responsible citizens.
To achieve its mission, 4-H accesses the expertise and resources of the University of Florida and a nationwide network of Cooperative Extension Service faculty and staff. (Fl 4-H Website: URL).
