Welcome to the UF/IFAS AVP Blog!

Currently I have just been sharing with my Facebook friends and my Twitter (@drjtothemastro) followers about what I am up to working for UF/IFAS. Since I’ve been working for UF for 18 years, I have a broad spectrum of campus colleagues and friends from academic advising, student affairs, and university administration and the repeated theme is “I didn’t really know all of the things IFAS does until you posted!”

On the other hand, when I meet people in IFAS, they know most of what IFAS does, but they say “what do you actually do for IFAS?” I respond “I do the boring stuff to keep the place running!” and I find it exciting. Snooze alert, here are some of the things I work on, in no particular order: government relations; facilities; information technology; budget; miscellaneous legal issues; I am on a bunch of committees, including some campus-wide ones where I represent IFAS; and so on. If it doesn’t have a natural home in IFAS, I am probably involved.

In this blog I hope to tell you where I have traveled on behalf of IFAS, some current issues on my plate, a funny story or two, and I might possibly wax poetic on issues about higher education in general. Also I like food. I’m proud to be part of Team IFAS and look forward to showing you a little more about the behind the scenes aspect of IFAS. (I might even tell a Jack Payne joke or two…stay tuned.) Let me know if you have any questions about any part of the IFAS administration and if I can answer I will!
