Jackson 4-H Member Wins Optimist Club Oratorical Contest

Competing in the Jackson County 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking Contest was just the beginning for Jackson County 4-H member Chloe Kent, a 4th grader at Dayspring Christian Academy. Chloe competed in and won 1st place in the Optimist Club of Jackson County’s oratorical contest on March 7th. The theme for this year’s competition was “What the World Gains from Optimism.” Elizabeth Fleener, a senior at Chipley High School, came in a very close second.

Chloe will compete at the regional level in the West Florida Regional oratorical competition in late April, against winners from other Optimist Clubs in the region. According to Jackson County Optimist Club president Karen Watson, “The winner of that competition will be sent to the District level with the chance to win a scholarship, and then possibly on the Optimist International Regional /World Championship for a chance to win an additional $5,000 or up to another $15,000 scholarship.”

Chloe also participates in the Jackson 4-H Chick Chain program. We are looking forward to big things from this young lady!
