After nearly a decade, 4-H youth from the District II counties of Bay, Calhoun, Holmes, Jackson, Walton and Washington had an opportunity to compete in District level competitions in 4-H Events and to elect District II 4-H Youth Council members. The District level competition in the 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking Contest was brought back in 2015. We now have included a 4-H District Event competition! Competitions for all three events were held this past Saturday, May 21 at Freeport High School in Walton County, with 19 youth from Calhoun, Holmes, Jackson, Walton and Washington counties competing in the events and four youth from Jackson, Walton and Washington running for District officer seats.
First place winners from each of the participating counties in the county level 4-H Tropicana and 4-H Events were eligible to compete. Senior blue ribbon winners in the 4-H Events competition are eligible to travel on to State competition at the State 4-H University in July.
In the District II Council election the following youth were installed:
(L-R) President – Austin Sapp, Washington County, Vice President – Jessica Wells, Washington County,
Secretary – Erika Pereda, Jackson County, Treasurer – Jackson Leath, Walton County (not pictured),
Reporter – Nathalie Yoder, Jackson County
We are so excited to have participation at this level and would like to congratulate all of the youth, their families, their club leaders, and their teachers for all of their hard work. The District II Team would like to thank the Walton County School Board for the use of the facilities and also thank our judges Geneva Lee, Judy Pinter and Lee Foshee.
