Is your child interested in learning more about chickens?
If so, our 4-H Chicken Summer Camp will be a great introduction to the wide world of chicken care, judging, and showing. This camp will introduce topics such as chicken anatomy, how to identify different breeds, and how to judge chickens. Additionally, campers will learn about the many different resources that different chicken breeds provide such as meat, eggs, or both.
On top of this, campers will learn the basics of poultry showmanship and preparing their bird for a show. Topics that will be covered include care and management, nutrition, housing, roosting, and foraging.
In addition to learning about live birds, campers will be introduced to meat identification and basic food safety as it relates to chickens.
Life skills such as decision making, responsibility, and developing marketable skills will be taught over the course of this three-day camp.
If you are considering raising chickens for your family or simply want your child to learn where the chicken in the store comes from, this camp is perfect for you!
