2015 Area A 4-H Horse Show – A Huge Success!
Jackson County 4-H boasted a record 12 participants in the 2015 Area 4-H Horse Show that was held April 17 and 18, 2015 in Marianna, Florida. The participant numbers from across the Panhandle nearly doubled this year from 32 entries in 2014 to 55 entries in 2015. Even though bad weather threatened to shut the competition down Friday night with pouring rain and an hour and a half power outage, the show went on!
We would like to thank Dr. Carolyn Gable, DVM of Keller Veterinary Services and Jackson County Fire and Rescue for being on stand by for any equine or human emergencies. Concessions were provided by the Jackson County Country Bumpkins 4-H Club and the Jackson County 4-H Buckaroos Horse Club.
Jackson County 4-H members represented the second largest number of competitors in this year’s show and of the 12 youth entered, 9 have qualified to go on to the State 4-H Horse Show that will be held in Tampa, Florida July 8-11, 2015. All of the youth worked very hard and they and their club volunteers dedicated two days a week to practice and prepare for the event. The final point totals for each of the competitors were: Trey Smith – 15, Autumn Mercer 14, Zackery Edenfield – 12, Jake Branch – 11, Edwin Rabon – 10, Amber Mercer -9, Baylee Beauchamp -8, Chelsea Edenfield -6, and River Clark -5.
The youth will be working to raise funds over the next few weeks in order to cover their expenses for making the trip to Tampa and would appreciate the support of the community.
