The Department of Horticultural Sciences at the University of Florida is a team of 200 faculty and staff located across Florida, dedicated to improving fruit and vegetable production for the benefit of Florida farmers and consumers. We conduct innovative research in plant breeding & genetics, plant and environmental physiology, fruit & vegetable production, postharvest physiology, biochemistry, and other disciplines. The Communications Specialist leads all communications for the department, including the Crop Transformation Center (CTC). This position is responsible for the digital and print communications strategy, implementation, and evaluation of communication impact. They will work with UF/IFAS (Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences) Communications to source stories, collaborate on media coverage, and develop graphic design projects. The Communications Specialist is responsible for creating and executing a communications strategy, translating department-created content for the public, branding, and raising awareness of our people, research, teaching, and Extension efforts to the public.

Isolate and resolve highly complex IT ticket requests submitted via the UF/IFAS ticket system for operating system and application software; offer videoconferencing and on-line teaching support; generate and maintain IT service records and SOPs; upon request, train faculty, staff members, and graduate students on the use of fundamental programs and/or new tech hardware. Purchase, maintain and manage a/v equipment in conference room. Provide preventive actions and solutions to recurring IT issues. Complete other IT support tasks as needed, including tasks assigned by the position’s supervisor or department chair.

This is a team-based customer service position; the possession of and propensity to use interpersonal communication skills to appropriately and effectively communicate and interact with colleagues and teammates is required. A willingness to take ownership of tickets to balance the team’s workload is expected. The ability to accurately assess a client’s familiarity with IT-related topics and adapt the approach, response, and/or instructions is critical. Farm Operations Technical Manager

This individual will be key in decision making when the Farm Manager is unavailable. This position has a significant influence on the development and application of procedures based on an understanding of the Livestock Systems Innovation Lab’s role and function. The LSIL program works globally: East Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda), West Africa (Burkina Faso and Niger), Asia (Nepal), and Haiti. The position collaborates closely with the Division of Sponsored Programs (DSP), Contracts and Grants (C&G), and IFAS Sponsored Program Administration (SPA) to ensure efficiency and compliance with federal, sponsor and University guidelines.

This is a time limited position and is dependent on funding availability.
