NEW! Accessible Document Services

UF/IFAS Communications now offers accessible document remediation

UF/IFAS Communications can provide PDF, Word, and PowerPoint remediation, making your documents ADA, Section 508, WCAG, and PDF/UA compliant.

What does that mean?

It means we have more ways to bring accessible information to all. UF/IFAS publications contain important information that all Floridians should be able to access. Files that are not accessible inhibit people with disabilities from reading and understanding the content. State and federal laws require that individuals with disabilities be afforded the same opportunities available to persons without disabilities.

What is an accessible document?

Accessible files present content so that people with disabilities can consume it. For example, a screen reading device reads non-compliant files in the wrong order, making it difficult for someone with low or no vision to understand.

Are UF/IFAS Communications files accessible?

UF/IFAS Communications’ graphic designers create all digital files for accessibility, so they are screen-readable by technology like NVDA and JAWS.

We can now also remediate the PDF, Word, and PowerPoint files YOU CREATE to make them screen-readable.

How can I get a file remediated for accessibility?

When you have finalized your file, submit a Workfront request for ADA remediation here: Workfront ADA Remediation Requests.

Which files should I submit for remediation?

New or recently updated documents that will be used digitally. Examples of files that should be ADA-compliant include:

  • Digital invitations
  • Flyers
  • Fact sheets
  • Booklets

Examples of where to use ADA-compliant files include:

  • Posting on webpages
  • Linking on social media posts
  • Sending via E-mail attachments

Can I make my own files accessible when working in Word or InDesign?

Yes! Learn how to set up your files for ADA compliance here: https://branding.ifas.ufl.edu/training/ and look under Document Accessibility – ADA Training
