Florida Cattle and Environmental Impact Statistics

In the technological advanced world we live in today, many people take to Facebook or other social media outlets to receive their “news”. This is not the best way to get unbiased news because majority of people use social media as a way to share their opinions and thoughts on current issues. Unfortunately many people take these opinions as “truth” or “science based information” and believe what they read.

Agricultural industries have been a hot topic for many years in regards to issues such as, water quality, environmental impact, carbon footprint, animal welfare, nutritional value of red meat, and many others. The University of Florida IFAS Extension, UF/IFAS Research, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Florida Cattlemen’s Association, and many other research based entities joined together to create fact sheets to answer many of society’s burning questions. These were designed with the intent to help the general public understand how production agriculture works to produce more food with less land and less input costs. They are also useful in showing how livestock producers utilize Best Management Practices to reduce the amount of nutrients in the soil to help sustain our environment long-term through preserving our natural resources.

Please share these research based fact sheets with your communities to educate the actual impact livestock production has on our environment!
