CALS Kickoff: 2025 Edition

It’s time to join in on all the exciting opportunities the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences has planned for the 2025-2026 academic year! From exploring academic opportunities to looking to join a student organization, CALS events are the perfect chance to explore all that CALS has to offer.

As a student, CALS Kickoff is the opportunity to dive into campus involvement early! Connecting with student clubs and organizations can be an exciting and nerve-wracking opportunity with so many to choose from. Here are some CALS-affiliated student organizations to explore as you gain more experience outside of the classroom.

Dairy Science Club

The UF Dairy Science Club is a student organization that promotes student involvement in the dairy industry through hands-on experiences and connections with peers and industry representatives. The organization’s main events vary from professional development to community outreach.

“I’m really looking forward to attending the American Dairy Science Association Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this coming June to compete in Quiz Bowl and network with students, faculty and industry leaders from around the globe,” said Rebecca Lyons, club president.

Students can also look forward to other Dairy Science Club events, such as the three-day Artificial Insemination School and Family Day at the UF/IFAS Dairy Unit.

Entomology Club

The Entomology Club is a space for any student with a love of insects to connect with like-minded peers, increase their education about insects, and educate others about insects. From guest speakers at general body meetings to an arthropod petting zoo, there are numerous opportunities to make memories and build connections.

“My favorite memory with the Entomology Club has to be from this past Bugfest in April. I was the organizer for it, and although the lead-up was stressful, it went off without a hitch,” said Jaden Kinard, club president.

The annual Bugfest brings almost 300 people to campus, and it is open to anyone in the public with a love for bugs.

Environmental Horticulture Club

The mission of the Environmental Horticulture Club is to nurture the education and interests of its members with professional development and outreach opportunities related to horticulture. The options as a student are endless with opportunities to attend conferences, visit botanical garden and more. Club signature events include hands-on learning with the annual Poinsettia Sale, Landscape Competition and an international trip for students and faculty.

“The international trip is the culmination of all the hard work we’ve done in the past year, and we get to spend more than a week with our friends learning, experiencing and enjoying a new culture together before summer begins,” said Brian Do, club president.

Come join us at CALS Kickoff to learn more about these organizations and all the college has to offer!
