Marlena Moore always wanted to be a part of agriculture. With an affinity for numbers, majoring in food and resource economics was a perfect fit.

Moore wanted to stay close to home for college, which she was able to accomplish by completing her degree at the UF/IFAS College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Plant City location.

She credits Dr. Peña-Lévano, lecturer in the UF/IFAS Food and Resource Economics Department at the UF/IFAS CALS at Plant City location, as being influential in her time as a student.

“He goes above and beyond to help students understand FRE in a way that is applicable to life,” Moore said.

After graduation, Moore plans on immersing herself in the agriculture industry, and working with companies to bridge the gap between consumers and producers.

“Ask as many questions as you can,” Moore advised current and future CALS students. “Some people may think there is such thing as a ‘dumb question’ but there really isn’t. If you need extra help or clarification, don’t let anyone get in your way of that.”

Through curriculum and experiential learning, student studying food and resource economics develop the skills to analyze complex situations such as the allocation of natural resources to meet the needs of people in local, state, national, and global communities. Students study sales, agricultural finance, food and agribusiness marketing, agribusiness management, international agricultural policy, math and economics.
