UF Animal Sciences Internship Experiences: Morgan Yoder

Morgan Yoder is a member of the UF Animal Sciences Fall Class of 2024 and this summer she completed an internship with Adams Land and Cattle in Broken Bow, Nebraska. She served as a processing intern, placing her in the processing barn where she learned about cattle care. Morgan says she gained quality cattle handling skills including knowledge about maintaining a safe, efficient environment for the cattle, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Her favorite aspect of this internship was the opportunity to form strong connections with fellow students that broadened her understanding of the agriculture industry. She explained, “The people there are accepting and willing to teach; I was learning something new every single day.”

Morgan believes her internship enhanced her undergraduate experience through the reinforcement of material she learned in Dr. Todd Thrift’s beef production and management courses, including cattle handling skills and other ranch management responsibilities.

Her advice to a student interested in internships is, “Do the thing that is out of your comfort zone! I had the opportunity to be in Nebraska for the summer at a feedlot, which is not normal for a Florida girl to do. However, it has been one of the best experiences of my life and has opened even more doors for me whenever I graduate. It might be scary at first, but it’s so worth it!”
