University of Florida College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Recognizes ANS Faculty and Staff for Exemplary Teaching and Advising:
The UF Department of Animal Sciences proudly announces that ANS Assistant Professor Jason Scheffler has been awarded the prestigious University of Florida College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) Undergraduate Teacher of the Year Award.
Since 2014, Dr. Scheffler has played a key role as a faculty member within the UF Department of Animal Sciences. He teaches a range of undergraduate courses, including Introduction to Animal Science, Senior Seminar, and HACCP Systems. From freshmen to seniors, students benefit from his expertise and guidance. Scheffler’s students gain both classroom knowledge and practical skills essential for their careers in animal sciences.
Scheffler’s impact extends beyond the classroom. As an advisor for the UF Block and Bridle Club, he mentors members in their respective professional development journeys.
Taking a real-world approach to his curriculum, Dr. Scheffler emphasizes career readiness and industry relevance. He not only teaches the advanced science curriculum effectively, but also highlights diverse aspects of the animal science industry. This approach helps students identify their passions within animal science.
Regarding the importance of career preparation, Dr. Scheffler notes, “The career aspect of things in our department has always been important, but it has only become more important.”
Dr. Scheffler aims to instill confidence in students, not just in their scientific knowledge but also in their technical skills and career readiness. In his Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Systems class, he emphasizes practicality, offering students the opportunity to become certified alongside industry professionals in HACCP and develop food safety plans applicable in production settings.
The Department of Animal Sciences recognizes Dr. Scheffler’s significant impact on students inside and outside the classroom, serving as a teacher, mentor, and advocate to all who know him.
