Select Sires Hiring Semen Processing & Research Intern for Spring/Summer 2018

The Select Sires Semen Processing and Research internship is based at the Select Sires Headquarters in Plain City, Ohio. The purpose of this internship is to provide students with experience in bovine semen processing and freezing, product quality control, and research at the largest bull stud in North America. 

This position is open to all undergraduate students studying animal or dairy science or a related field. An applicant will preferably be entering his/her junior or senior year of undergraduate, but applicants planning on continuing education in a pertinent field will be considered. 
This internship will be offered in the spring/summer of 2018, based on intern availability. Hours will vary from 10 to 40 hours per week depending on the academic semester and the intern’s availability.

Job Duties:

  • Emphasis will be placed on developing general laboratory skills, microscopy, flow cytometry, and likely some techniques in microbiology associated with production of frozen semen
  • Performing semen quality control evaluations
  • Semen extender preparation
  • General laboratory maintenance
  • Administrative tasks
  • Assisting with research projects both in-house and potentially offsite
    • Ideally, a successful intern would be able to manage one or more research projects by the end of the internship
    • Development and execution of an independent research project is a possibility, but not a requirement

Requirements:

  • Must be an undergraduate student or newly-graduated student with an interest in the bovine artificial insemination industry
  • Personal transportation is required
  • Laboratory and research experience are preferred but not required
Compensation: Hourly, but no housing or transportation will be provided.
