Pesticide Licensing and Training in Alachua County
In order to apply restricted use pesticides in the state of Florida, one must obtain and maintain a pesticide applicator’s license. Regulation of these licenses is the responsibility of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). However, classes are provided and exams are proctored through the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS). Exams can be scheduled at your local Extension office. To schedule an exam in Alachua County contact either Dr. Kevin Korus or Dr. Tatiana Sanchez at the Extension Office (phone: 352-955-2402).

Training
Preparatory classes are offered at the Alachua County Extension Office for certain pesticide license category types. See calendar below. The goal of the training is to provide education on the safe and responsible use of pesticides, effects of pesticides on people and the environment and the worker protection standard. Each class reviews fundamental concepts on the pesticide exams but it is not a substitute for studying the pesticide applicator training manuals.
