Jefferson County 4-H Teens Attended Retreat

Jefferson County teens attended the 3rd Annual 4-H NW Florida District Teen Retreat. The retreat was held at beautiful 4-H Camp Cherry Lake in Madison County on Feb 16-18, 2018.

The theme “4-Her’s Guide to an Apocalypse.” Teens learned basic survival skills by participating in educational sessions on how to survive an Apocalypse. Teens made “Bug out Bags”. They received instruction on basic first aid, shelter building, how to purify water, and how to build a campfire.

The following fun workshops planned and taught by teens were grilling, fishing, mad science, archery, cake decorating, and paint steps.
There was a lip sync contest and the adults versus the teens in a kickball game.

The primary goal of this retreat was to enhance teens’ workforce, communication, and leadership skills. This encourages youth to take on leadership and advocate roles at the county, district, and state levels. Representatives from sixteen counties in the Florida Panhandle were present; nine-teen youth from Jefferson County 4-Hers (ages 13-18) participated in the Northwest 4-H Teen Retreat.

Congratulations to Jeremiah Norton from Jefferson County. He won the t-shirt design contest. Jeremiah received a $50 camp scholarship. Starr Gamble won the lip sync contest. Also, special thanks to Jeremiah Norton & Jayla Ball for leading the spirit rally.
