They have eight legs, with enlarged pedipalps for pinching. They also have a stinger at the tip of the tail, which has six segments. The stinger is connected to poison glands and can cause a painful sting. Scorpions usually are found outdoors under logs and debris, feeding on insects such as cockroaches, but they may wander indoors at night. No Florida scorpion is considered poisonous; in fact, the scorpions found in Florida are considered beneficial, and should be spared, when possible.
