Since April of last year, our Sumter County 4-H and FFA members have been working diligently growing and caring for their peach trees. This year was exceptionally difficult due to the extreme winter. In addition to raising their peach trees, the youth have attended educational workshops, learned about the peach tree industry, and have completed a number of educational activities associated with peaches. The youth will turn in their peach trees at the end of the month for judging. Youth have the chance to win ribbons and earn premium money based on how well they cared for and pruned their trees.
All of trees are sold via silent auction during the Sumter County Fair. The silent auction begins Friday, March 2 at 5:00pm and closes Friday, March 9 at 10:00pm. The silent auction bid sheets and peach trees will be on display in the Family Living Exhibit. So come check out all of the hard work these youth have put into their projects and come place your bids!
