2024 UF DeLuca Preserve Bioblitz – March 1st

Calling all interested biologists, Master Gardener Volunteers, Master Naturalists and interested members of the public with experience identifying Florida’s plants and animals!

Do you want to learn about Florida’s plants and wildlife at the UF DeLuca Preserve? This might be the perfect opportunity. The UF/IFAS Extension will be conducting the 2024 UF DeLuca Preserve Bioblitz on March 1, 2024. This event will be hosted by a team of UF research and extension experts from across the state.

During this bioblitz event, participants will use iNaturalist to catalog the plants and wildlife on site. We will venture out on the trails at the UF DeLuca Preserve to observe and learn about native the native biodiversity in this unique preserve. Participants will be asked to install the iNaturalist app on their phone prior to meeting up on March 1, 2024 and join the project “2024 UF DeLuca Bioblitz · iNaturalist.” This unique opportunity at the UF DeLuca Preserve will focus on the plants and animals in semi-improved and improved pastures, wetlands, dry prairies, upland scrub, and flatwoods habitats. DeLuca Preserve, 6900 S Kenansville Road Okeechobee, FL. Extension programs are open to all persons without regard to race, color, sexual orientation, sex, age, disability, religion, or national origin. If you require accommodation under the ADA, please contact event organizers, directly, as soon as possible and at least ten business days before the event. We will do our best to provide accommodation where possible. Participants must be at least 18 years of age to participate.

Participants should wear appropriate field attire. Closed toe shoes, hiking boots, long pants, hat, insect repellent, and sunscreen are recommended. Bring your lunch and a reflective safety vest (if you have one). Personal cellphone is required.  Please note this will not be an interpretive nature hike.  Participants should have above-beginner knowledge of Florida’s biodiveristy.

  • 8:00 am – Check-in and gather for instructions
  • 3:00 pm – Return to the meeting site by this time
