Honey Tasting Event at UF/IFAS Indian River Research and Education Center

Join UF/IFAS Extension Agent Ken Gioeli and UF/IFAS IRREC Assistant Professor, Dr. Nicole Quinn, for an informative honey tasting event. This event will take place on August 15, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. in room 219 at the UF/IFAS Indian River REC. Registration is not required.  This program is free-of-charge.

National Honey Bee Day is celebrated the 3rd Saturday of August. What better way to celebrate the services provided by these amazing pollinators than by having a honey tasting event.  Did you know the flavor profiles of honey can differ greatly based on the plants the bees visit?  Honey varieties to taste during this event will include avocado, mangrove, mango and Florida orange blossom.  Honey will not be sold during the event.

According to UF/IFAS EDIS Publication “The Benefits of Pollen to Honey Bees”, honey bees consume processed nectar (honey) and pollen (bee bread), both of which are provided by flowers. Nectar, which bees convert to honey, serves as the primary source of carbohydrates for the bees. It provides energy for flight, colony maintenance, and general daily activities.

Join us and learn about honeybees by participating in the UF honey tasting event.
