The UF/IFAS Extension St. Lucie County congratulates the newest graduates of the Florida Master Naturalist Program in St Lucie County.
On Thursday, May 20, 2021, nineteen students successfully completed the Florida Master Natural Program (FMNP) Environmental Interpretation Course and were recognized for their achievements. Prior to recognition, each student completed a journal describing three site visits to environmental sites throughout Florida. Due to COVID-19 precautions, the course was conducted 100% via Zoom with self-directed field trips. Students were asked to journal about their experiences in this course. Some students created virtual journals which can be found linked on the site below.
This 24-hr FMNP Environmental Interpretation Course is designed to make participants better environmental interpreters and educators, so that others may learn about Florida’s natural history and conservation issues. This course covered concepts such as the fundamentals of interpretation, key elements of an effective interpretive program, how to create themes, sub-messages and transitions, group management, addressing diverse audience needs, developing interpretive displays and practicing interpretive techniques.
In 2021, the Florida Master Naturalist Program celebrates its 20th anniversary. The FMNP Environmental Interpretation course is one of four 24-hr land steward courses offered by the UF/IFAS. It is a collaborative effort of the UF/IFAS Extension St. Lucie County and other partner agencies. In total, students must successfully complete three core courses and four restoration courses to become certified as Advanced Florida Master Naturalists.
