In conjunction with National 4-H week, October 9th set off one of the most successful 4-H events of this year- Awards Night!
Our annual awards night is a way to recognize the hard work of Seminole County 4-H members and volunteers. During this event, recognition for competitions, activities, and projects are awarded to 4-Hers.
Due to current social distancing guidelines, awards night was redesigned into a drive through event. Usually, it would be a very close contact event, but thanks to the efforts of everybody involved, we were able to keep it fun and safe for all. With our 4-H agents, the County Council planned and implemented a successful event with over 60 people in attendance. Several attendees decorated their vehicles, thank you signs were displayed and smiles could be seen behind masks. While we were unable to supply cookies and cake nor shake hands like usual, we showed our support for every 4-Her with new, safe ways! Bells, music, posters, and bubbles all greeted each new car as they drove up to the UF IFAS Extension office to accept their awards and have pictures taken.
Overall, the night was a massive success and this test event helped show that even through a pandemic, we’ll keep evolving around it to continue the fun and festivities in new, safe ways.
