2025 Virtual Farm Tour Day 4
Virtual Farm Tour Day 4: Dutch Mill Nursery
Florida’s nursery industry is a major supplier of ornamental plants across the country, with wholesale growers like this one providing seasonal plants and flowers to garden centers and landscapers. Annual plants bring vibrant color to gardens but complete their life cycle in just one season!
Where do wholesale nurseries sell their plants?
Wholesale nurseries differ from retail nurseries in that they often sell in bulk to other businesses rather than directly to the public. Their biggest customers are usually businesses like garden centers, landscapers, or other farmers. Some will even sell their plants online, at trade shows or plant auctions through bulk orders. While wholesale nurseries focus on large-scale production and distribution, retail nurseries are more likely to cater to home gardeners looking for specific plants as they sell direct to individual customers.
What is an annual plant?
An annual plant is a plant that completes its entire lifecycle within a single growing season. This means that the plant will live from seed to flower to producing new seeds in that one season. Once the plant dies at the end of the season, new plants will grow from seeds the following season. Gardeners often chose annuals for their vibrant blooms and fast growth, making them great for some seasonal color in the garden and landscape. Typically, you will replant annuals each season to integrate those temporary, yet colorful blooms and fresh foliage.
2025 Virtual Farm Tour
The Seminole County Farm Tour has been a long held tradition, hosted for over 20 years. Over the years, the tour has been hosted in many different forms from self-driving to tour busses and even online. This year, we are hosting the tour for the second time in this virtual format. A virtual tour opens the doors for more folks, allowing people from anywhere to participate without the need for travel. Through farmer interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and interactive storytelling, these Virtual Farm Tour videos aim to make agriculture more accessible and educational for everyone.
