Stormwater Stewardship Month: Join Us in Protecting Our Water Resources
UF/IFAS Extension Pinellas County, in collaboration with Pinellas County Environmental Management and the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, is proud to announce Stormwater Stewardship Month, a month-long educational and awareness campaign dedicated to educating the public about stormwater, watersheds, and the importance of protecting our water resources.
What We Are Doing
Throughout the month, we will be hosting a variety of activities and events designed to engage and inform the community about stormwater management and its impacts on public health and wildlife. These initiatives include:

- Social Media Campaigns: Daily posts highlighting the importance of stormwater management and actions individuals can take to positively impact local water resources.
- In-Person and Online Classes: Educational sessions covering topics such as stormwater basics, watershed protection, and practical steps for reducing stormwater pollution. (See calendar below)
- Educational Materials and Displays: Informative brochures, posters, and interactive displays available at various locations throughout the county. BONUS: Listen to our “Naturally Florida” podcast episode on stormwater, and supplement with our student worksheet!
- Community Engagement Activities: Including a pledge to protect stormwater, stormwater BINGO, coloring books for children, and more.

Trifold display at Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center featuring stormwater and the Adopt-A-Drain program.
Why It Matters
Water management is crucial for maintaining the health of our environment and community. By educating the public, we aim to:
- Protect Public Health: Reduce pollutants in stormwater that can affect drinking water and recreational areas.
- Preserve Wildlife: Ensure clean water for local wildlife and maintain healthy ecosystems.
- Enhance Community Awareness: Foster a sense of responsibility and stewardship among visitors and residents.
