Many parents that we come across throughout the community say it’s hard to get their kids to eat healthy. One fun idea that we’ve showed families at our lessons is to make kabobs—made with various fruits and cheeses! The kids that attend our lessons and try it seem to love it, and are a healthier alternative to cheese sticks or cheesy crackers! Getting kids to be hands-on when it comes to healthy food increases their willingness to try it. In the fruit and cheese kabobs, the kids can wash and cut pieces of fruit and cut blocks of cheese into smaller bite-sized pieces. All kinds of fruit would work, such as pieces of strawberries, watermelon, kiwi, and pineapple. For the skewers, coffee stirrers work, or, simply use whole wheat pretzel sticks! Just stick the pieces of fruit and cheese to the sticks, and you have an easy and healthy snack to enjoy with your kids.
