Controlling Moles

So what can be done to control moles? The best thing is a trap designed specifically for moles. These traps can be found at an old-fashioned hardware store, feed stores, farm supply stores etc. The best style is one called a “chocker- loop”, since most the mechanism of the trap is below ground. The “harpoon” style will work but most of the mechanism is above ground (spikes, spring, metal supports etc.). This style is more “attractive” to curious pets and young children, so use with caution!
What about putting poison out in the yard, such as “poisoned peanuts”? The use of any such poison is not legal in the state of Florida even if you can purchase it at your local stores! Even if it was legal I would not recommend its use in the landscape. It is simply too dangerous to non-targeted organisms such as birds, dogs, cats and children.
