The Orange 4-H Association decided to increase the Terry Floyd Scholarship Endowment, thanks to an anonymous gift and savings from various 4-H fundraisers established by the 4-H Agents in Orange County. This donation will secure three scholarships, two for Orange County 4-H youth and one any Florida 4-H member, every year for many years to honor Terry’s dream of all 4-H youth to pursue post-secondary education. “Devoted to 4-H Kids” is one of the phrases that come to mind when thinking about Terry Floyd. His unwavering commitment to 4-H youth was the hallmark of his 29-year career with Orange County Cooperative Extension Service as a 4-H Agent, as stated on the Florida 4-H Hall of Fame web site: http://bit.ly/OCfloyd
Before Terry passed, a group of 4-H volunteers contacted him about the idea of creating a memorial scholarship established by 4-H members and alumni to honor his contribution to the 4-H youth development programs. Terry loved the idea and those volunteers made it happen through fundraisers and matching gifts. Forty-six youth have been awarded scholarships worth $23,000. Although the income has supported most year’s awards, the endowment needed to be increased to sustain the third scholarship as these days more 4-H youth are applying for it.
This is how the Florida 4-H Youth Development program announced the future donation in their social media: “WOW! Thank you Orange County Florida 4-H – UF IFAS Extension Association 🍀 for your $10,000 gift to the Terry Floyd 4-H Scholarship Endowment. This will create a third permanent award in Terry’s honor…Terry loved #FL4HCamps, you can join #OC4H in supporting 4-H’ers with a gift to his scholarship http://bit.ly/FloydSch or to a 4-H Camp http://bit.ly/suahifas…”
Our vision is to possibly increase the endowment enough to secure a 4th, 5th, and 6th scholarship. Donations to the endowment can be processed through our Orange County 4-H Office.
