Extension Agent, Tia Silvasy, will share tips and techniques on cultivating a more sustainable landscape. Tia has a Master’s degree in Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences from the University of Hawaii. She trained as a Permaculture Teacher with Geoff Lawton in Australia. Additionally, she has a wealth of knowledge of native plants, Florida-Friendly plants, and perennial food crops that thrive in the Central Florida area.
Tia brings a multi-disciplinary agroecology approach to sustainable landscaping. Learn how to have a beautiful landscape with a low impact on the environment. This class will inspire you with landscape design ideas, easy to grow plants, and methods to reduce water, fertilizer, and pesticides. This class is also for unconventional gardeners who want to learn how to make their own soil and use grasses and legumes to grow your own fertilizer. Perennial plants and trees are emphasized along with soil building for a more permanent food forest landscape.
