UF/IFAS Extension Okaloosa County Collects the Most Peanut Butter Jars

UF/IFAS Extension Okaloosa County collects the most peanut butter jars among 40 Florida counties in 2024!

The renowned UF/IFAS Extension Annual Peanut Butter challenge concluded for 2024. The Peanut Butter Challenge “is simple: community members donate unopened, unexpired jars of peanut butter of any size in a friendly collection competition during the month of October to help combat hunger. Food insecurity has been linked to many negative health outcomes and has grown more widespread in the wake of COVID-19. At the end of the collection period, the jars are tallied, bragging rights are awarded to counties collecting the most peanut butter, and the jars go to local food pantries just in time for the holiday season.” (https://sfyl.ifas.ufl.edu/peanutbutter/).

UF/IFAS Extension Okaloosa County proudly collected 3,787 jars of peanut butter for local food pantries.

These jars provided 4,771 pounds of peanut butter to the Okaloosa County community.

Thanks to all who contributed to make an incredible impact. Special thanks to Jennifer Bearden, UF/IFAS Extension Okaloosa County, for leading these efforts. Special thanks to the following organizations for their large donations: Crestview Rotary Club, Fort Walton Beach Women’s Club, Okaloosa County Farm Bureau, Oliver’s Nursery and Landscaping, and OLV Catholic Care Center.
