The UF/IFAS food and resource economics department (FRED) hosts a conference each spring to examine critical policy issues facing Florida agribusiness leaders and provide insights on economic factors that can inform business and policy decisions.

As a result of the abnormal circumstances that arose in 2020, this year’s conference will further explore the economic impact of the pandemic on agricultural enterprises and policy. Also as a result of the pandemic, the event will be conducted virtually instead of in-person.

WHAT: The Sixth Annual Florida Agricultural Policy Outlook Conference. Details and an agenda can be accessed at fred.ifas.ufl.edu/flagpolicyoutlookconference. Day 1’s theme is “The Pandemic and Agriculture” and will include sessions on the “Economic Impact of the Pandemic on Agricultural Markets” and “Agricultural Labor Issues in the Pandemic.” Day 2 will cover “State, Federal and International Agricultural Policy” and “Citrus and Coastal Industry Outlooks.”

WHEN: Feb. 25-26. Presentations run from 1-4 p.m. EST each day.

WHO: Agribusiness leaders, industry professionals and policymakers are invited to attend. Presenters will include:

• Derek Farnsworth, assistant professor, UF/IFAS food and resource economics
• Fred Gale, senior economist, USDA Economic Research Service
• John Walt Boatright, director of national affairs, Florida Farm Bureau
• Adam Basford, director of state affairs, Florida Farm Bureau
• Marisa Zansler, director of economic and market research, Florida Department of Citrus
• Sherry Larkin, UF/IFAS food and resource economics professor and director of Florida Sea Grant
