Recognizing Outstanding 4-H’ers

This year we have had some great 4-H members nominated by club leaders, parents, agents, and other 4-H’ers for 4-H’er of the Month. These 4-H’ers have demonstrated the characteristics that we strive to instill in all of our youth. They are recognized in our monthly newsletter, as well as in the local newspapers. We are very proud of each of them! Read their stories below and stayed tuned to find out which one will win 4-H’er of the Year at Thursday’s Award Banquet.

September – Destin Reliford

Destin is the treasurer of the Backwoods Kids 4-H club. She is a positive role model for her fellow 4-H members. She is always willing to help wherever needed and steps up in the absence of someone. Along with being active in her 4-H club, Destin is also active in her community. Destin has participated in various community service projects (volunteering at the Life Care Center of Hilliard & The Hilliard Town Clean Up) and also volunteers at the Hilliard Parks & Recreation summer camp program. Destin has participated in showing market hogs in the Northeast Florida Fair for the past 2 years & will continue this year as well.

January – Katie Gates

Katie is the president of both the Next
Generation 4-H Club and Nassau County
Council. She is a great leader and is always the
first to lend a hand, whether it is teaching
younger 4-H’ers or preparing for an event. She
volunteers in many community service projects
and is a great role model for the younger kids
in her clubs. Recently, Katie spent several
weeks volunteering with a 4-H Robotics
program at Hilliard Middle School. She has also
taught at summer day camps and other
agricultural events. Katie has shown goats,
pigs, and steers in the Northeast Florida Fair
and plans to continue to do so.

March – Kody Barger

Kody is the recreation leader and reporter for
Nassau County Council. He is always willing to
lend a hand and help out in any way that he
can. Kody has spent a lot of time completing
community service projects through 4-H and
his other community organizations. He has
completed many other projects during his time
in 4-H including woodworking, poultry,
citizenship, and cooking!

June – Eli Hatton

“We nominate Eli Hatton for 4-H’er of the
month due to his attitude and participation
with 4-H. At meetings he is always involved,
dependable and respectful. He’s always
willing to help with anything and always
tells us thank you before he leaves the
meetings. Eli shows animals at the fair each
year, but he also stays active throughout
the year with 4-H events and community
service. Eli’s always ready to learn and 4-H
is a learn-by-doing approach, so go Eli!”
Eli Hatton is a member of the Barnyard N Beyond
4-H Club. He has been nominated for 4-H’er of the
month by his club leaders.
