Water Wednesday Preview: Stormwater Ponds

Last Updated on January 19, 2022 by Tennille Herron

We are so excited to unveil the new Water Wednesday: Water Wednesday Ask Extension and Water Wednesday Webinar.

Water Wednesday Ask Extension is brand new format. No formal presentation. No registration. We just would like to chat with you and answer your questions about Florida’s water. Water Wednesday Ask Extension is held on the first Wednesday of each month at 2 PM ET on Facebook Live. And then we will dive into Water Wednesday Webinar. It is held on the third Wednesday of each month. It will give you a more in-depth understanding of a specific water issue in Florida and how we can be part of the solution to solve the issue.

This month Water Wednesday will focus on Stormwater Ponds.

There are at least 75,000 stormwater ponds across the state! You can find anywhere, from our neighborhood to golf course or the shopping plaza where we get our groceries. While you have seen plenty of stormwater ponds, did you know how these ponds work? Believe or not, the primary purpose of stormwater ponds is flood control. They help mitigate the impacts of urban stormwater runoff while protecting our natural waterways from nutrient loading, erosion, sedimentation, and algal blooms (Howley et al., 2021).

If you want to learn more about stormwater ponds, don’t miss Water Wednesday this month.
