Welcome to Weed Science Wednesday, a weekly series aimed at helping homeowners and horticulture professionals to better identify and manage common landscape weeds in Florida.

This week’s weed of the week and featured EDIS publication is about Florida betony (Stachys floridana). Florida betony is a perennial (year-round) weed mostly found in Florida landscape planting beds, gardens, turfgrass, and agricultural production systems. This plant tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions (sun or shade, wet or dry soils, etc.), making it adaptable to many different areas in the landscape. Management can be difficult, but chemical treatments assist in controlling this weed species.
