The Landscape and Ornamental Production Weed Management Laboratory at the Mid-Florida Research and Education Center has a new resource comparing plant identification apps and offering tips for budding horticulturists who are hoping to use apps to identify plant species.
The PDF, which can be downloaded from the MREC website, compares four popular plant identification apps: iNaturalist, Pl@ntNet, PlantSnap and LeafSnap.
UF researchers compared the four popular apps, testing their ability to identify common landscape weeds in Florida. While most apps identified plants correctly to the genus, iNaturalist proved to be the most accurate at identifying weeds.
The resource also contains photography tips for horticulturists, nurserymen, foresters and homeowners looking to sharpen their plant identification skills.
