Program Highlights/Announcements
Today, a male fly was found in a new core area approximately two miles to the east of the existing core, resulting in an approximate 12-square-mile expansion of the quarantine area. This is not completely unexpected due to the amount of host fruit available and the potential for fruit movement during the initial days after the first find. The life cycle table has been updated; bringing the quarantine end date to 02/05/2016 provided there are no additional finds. Expanded trapping is underway. We continue to encourage growers and packers to enter compliance agreements that contain pre- and post-harvest treatment options that would allow successfully treated products to enter the marketplace.
Public notification of the expanded quarantine and treatment areas will be published in the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald on Wednesday, September 30, 2015. Twenty-four hours after that, male annihilation technique treatments will begin.
