The Water-Wise Awards program is designed to recognize attractive, water conserving landscapes for homes and businesses.
Winning landscapes balance attractive design with plants, landscape elements, and efficient irrigation techniques.
Points are awarded for the use of appropriately located plants and efforts to retain or restore natural areas for wildlife habitat. They are also free of invasive species and landscape elements that could minimize fertilizer and pesticide use.
How to Apply
Step 1: Complete Application by August 2, 2019 – To complete an application online, please visit: https://tinyurl.com/manateeww
Step 2: On-site Evaluation – If your landscape meets the basic criteria for the awards based on your application, a UF/IFAS Water Conservation Team member will contact you to schedule an on-site evaluation of your landscape and irrigation. Landscapes will be judged for awards during regular business hours. During the evaluation, judges will need access to all areas of the landscape as well as the irrigation system controller, if applicable. Pets must be secured during this process.
Step 3: Awards – One home and one business will receive an award. Winners will be given a decorative stepping stone and are asked to appear in front of the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners to accept their award.
