Family Nutrition Program

The UF/IFAS Family Nutrition Program in Manatee County is currently offering nutrition education to youth and adults in different settings around the county. The new team has started implementing nutrition education classes in after-school programs like The Boys & Girls Club where curriculum like Dig In! are being implemented. The children are being engaged and learning all about fruits and vegetables. Several Manatee County Schools will also receive nutrition education through the UF/IFAS Family Nutrition Program. The children will experience curriculum’s like Gardening for Nutrition where they will learn about health, science, language arts, math and more while using a Florida-based school garden. The Food and Nutrition Program – FNP team has also been engaging young learners in local early childcare centers in Manatee County by helping children make healthy food choices through evidence-based nutrition education like Youth Understanding My Plate (YUM). Adult communities like the Rubonia Community Center and SOLVE Maternity Home have participated in several FNP workshops and nutrition education classes as well. The UF/IFAS Family Nutrition Program is very excited for this new season of nutrition education.

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century! Education Closet.com 2018.

This Manatee County VPK class had a fun time learning about Delicious Dairy from the UF/IFAS Family Nutrition Program’s special visitor today, Amanda Sanchez; Program Assistant.
