5 Master Gardener Program Candidates
On Thursday evening, December 6th, we celebrated graduation for 5 Master Gardener Program candidates. Our students completed a rigorous 50-hour course and each student logged in at least 75 hours of service in our community. New Wakulla County Master Gardeners are: Chris Hill, Gwenn Milliken, Julia Miner, Anne Peterson, and Denise Williams. Congratulations!
Celebrating Our Current Master Gardeners
We also celebrated our current Master Gardeners that same evening. Every year, each Master Gardener must re-certify by donating a minimum of 35 service hours and keeping current by attending at least 10 hours of continuing education classes. Nine Master Gardeners re-certified this year.
Service Hours at the Extension Office
Including our students, the Master Gardeners donated over 1800 service hours in the community. The service hours include working in the Extension Office demonstration gardens, hosting two plant sales, participating in events such as Arbor Day and the Monarch Festival, volunteering at local schools, and other activities related to gardening.
Honoring 250 Plus Cumulative Service Hours
Three Master Gardeners surpassed 250 cumulative service hours this year. They are: Linda Clemens, Susan Kirkland, and Michele Hackmeyer. Bill Osborne volunteers at the Extension Office 3 days a week. He has already been awarded the following service-hour pins: 100-hours, 250-hours, 500-hours, 1000-hours, and 2000-hours. This year he received the 3000-hour
We have two members of our group who have been with the Wakulla County Master Gardener Program for 5 years. They are Michele Hackmeyer and Bill Osborne. We thank them for their dedication and hard work these last 5 years and hope they will stay with us for a long time to come!
