Did you know that the average child will eat 1,500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before he/she graduates high school?

Let’s keep children eating locally grown peanuts in healthy, nutritious, and YUMMY peanut butter.

The UF-IFAS Extension Offices in the Panhandle are collecting jars of peanut butter to give to local food pantries. Liberty County extension would like to invite Liberty County 4-H Members and Citizens to participate in the “Peanut Butter Challenge:. This is a great community service opportunity for 4-H Members and it is easy to participate.

We are asking you to collect jars of peanut butter (unopened) and bring them to the Liberty County Extension Service by November 16. We will have a big box in the office for peanut butter donations. Jars should be in grocery bags with your name and club on them if you are a 4-H member.

Why peanut butter? Peanut butter is a nutritious food. It provides lots of nutrients and protein. Put it between two slices of bread an you have a complete protein. peanut butter keeps well and is easily accessible for adults and children. Peanuts are also a major crop of many of the counties in the Florida panhandle.

All peanut butter will be donated to a local food pantry during Farm-City Week which is November 19-23, 2012.

Drop off location will be at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center in the Liberty County Extension Office through November 16th..
