The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension Master Gardener volunteer (MGV) course is an opportunity to connect with like-minded folks, gain new skills, increase personal satisfaction, share horticulture knowledge with others and creatively use free time. Thursdays, 9 am to noon, from January 23 through April 17, 2025, at Levy County Extension Center.
This course is for the novice, North Florida newcomer or veteran gardener. Facilitated by MGV coordinators, agents and specialists, the program covers fertilization, efficient watering, pesticide options, vegetables, fruit selection and more. In-person lecture, online presentations, videos, group and hands-on activities provide a comprehensive experience. MGV efforts make a positive difference in our communities and personally. “I learned a lot of great gardening tricks, that will help me improve my gardening techniques. Meeting and talking to like-minded gardeners are always a learning experience” said G. Ross and Michael H. shared “working shifts at the [plant clinic] booth, are some of the best times I have enjoyed.”
To certify as an MGV, complete the course and provide 75 hours Extension volunteer service. Note: University of Florida requires basic background screening and annual youth protection training for MGVs. Bring photo ID first day of class. Class capped at 35, first call, first served.
