The Lake County 4-H Program uses a variety of approaches to provide educational experiences for youth, one of those experiences is the 4-H Lake County Council. Officers in the 4-H Lake County Council are elected 4-H members who meet, discuss, plan, and assist in county programs and activities.

From Taylor Hileman, 4-H Lake County Council Reporter:
On Monday, June 19th, the officers of the 2019-2020 Lake County Council met together at the Ag Center in Tavares, FL for officer training. Throughout the two-day training, we learned about the expectations of officers, the importance of dressing professionally, communication, servant leadership, parliamentary procedure, and accountability.
Lake County 4-H Officers should always be striving to look for ways to improve upon everything that we do as well as being willing to go the extra mile for those around us. If positive customer service skills are the focus of our daily lives, we will excel at everything we do and will be positive leaders within the county council.
As a 4-H County Council Officer, I plan to educate others about 4-H. 4-H is not just about school or community clubs. 4-H is a lifestyle! Most people, when they think of 4-H, think of showing animals.
Life Skills Learned
4-H encompasses many life skills such as citizenship, leadership, expressive and visual arts, family and consumer services, healthy living, nature and outdoors, plants and gardening, science and technology, and animal sciences. Throughout each of these categories, there is an activity for any youth. No matter which projects you are interested in you will be gaining valuable life skills including communication, decision making, critical thinking, self-awareness, empathy, and self-control. No matter which 4-H project you take on, you are always learning by doing.
Lake County 4-H Kick-Off Party
Lake County 4-H will be kicking off the new 4-H year August 31, 2019 from 10am to 1pm at the Extension Office in Tavares. This event provides Lake County residents the opportunity to meet and greet Lake County 4-H Clubs. The County Council will be showcasing their club and they hope to see you there.
