Council youth partnered with Lesia Andrews of Farm Credit of NW Florida, Jackson County Forester, Barry Stafford, with the Florida Forest Service, and Florida’s 2015 Outstanding Tree Farmer of the Year, John Alter, to prepare box tops that depicted a working forest. Inside the boxes they placed 20 items made from trees that included everything from paper to cleaning products, to represent “Goods from the Woods.” On October 29th, council member Savannah Capps and Emilee Foran traveled to Malone School, along with Mr. Stafford, Mrs. Andrews and Mr. Alter to speak with 4th graders about “Working Forests.” The pencils on the box tops represented trees and each time a pencil was removed, an item was taken from the box to represent a forest product. At the end of the presentation the items in the box were given to the classroom teachers. If you would like to learn more about this educational project, contact the 4-H office at (850) 482-9620.
