Some take-home info from the UF Escambia Extension program with Dr. Monica Elliott:
1. Palms should be planted with the root ball even with surrounding soil and supported with braces for the 1st year.
2. Keep all lawn fertilizers out of the root area of palms.
3. Palm fertilizer needs to have nutrients in slow release forms. Look for the 8-0-12-4 with micronutrients. Make sure potassium and magnesium are slow release along with nitrogen. If you can’t u…se this fertilizer, it is best not to fertilize.
4. Only prune off dead leaves. Remove faded flowers and seed stalks as needed.
