FWC and New Dive Flag Rule

House Bill 1049 goes into effect today. Under this bill divers in the state of Florida who are diving in open water can now display a dive buoy in lieu of a dive flag. The dive buoy can 3 or 4 sides but must display dive symbols. The symbols must be at least 12×12 inches. However if displaying from a boat you must continue to use a standard dive flag at least 20×24 inches.

Divers are required to remain within 300 ft of the dive marker if in open water and within 100 ft if in a river or channel. For more information on this new ruling visit www.MyFWC.com.
